STREET PHOTOGRAPHY ONE-DAY WORKSHOPS WITH JEFF & SARAH ASCOUGH
Come with us and experience the excitement, drama and magic of street photography at locations across the UK. From city streets to promenades and beaches. Whether you are a professional, enthusiast or just want to try something new, we can help you to take your photography further.
SMALL GROUP TUITION AS STANDARD
The best way to learn street photography is not in a large group or classroom, but by having guidance while actually shooting on the streets. In our experience, it is impossible to give people the time and help they need when working with a large group, and it becomes harder to get pictures as a group is far more noticeable. We only work with a maximum of four photographers - that's just two photographers with one tutor.
TUTORS WHO WALK THE WALK
We shoot street photography as part of our livelihood. We are passionate about what we do and spend many, many days walking the streets, taking pictures and honing our craft.
Jeff has 30 years of experience as a professional photographer. He has won hundreds of awards and his pictures have been published worldwide. In 2016, he had the honour of teaching Sir Don McCullin as he took his first steps into digital capture.
Sarah's work has been published internationally and received rave reviews from photographers such as Homer Sykes, Tom Stoddart, and Martin Parr. Her first documentary/street book 'Showfield' was accepted into the Martin Parr Foundation and was described as "a classic combination of finely tuned photographic art with a humorous eye” by Amateur Photographer Magazine.
Accolades and experience aside, we are two incredibly down-to-earth people with a wicked sense of humour and a life-long dedication to photography.
"It was lovely to meet you both today. I had such a good time and got exactly what I had hoped for from your workshop. I’ve learned so much.
Thanks for a fun, worthwhile day."
"Thank you both so much for a fantastic day last Sunday in Blackpool! I had a brilliant time and learnt so much from you. You made the experience so enjoyable and definitely got me over my fear of taking photos of people!
I've already been out and about trying out the techniques that you both showed me, I love it and I will definitely be continuing."
THE DAY ITSELF
During a typical day, we will look at light, composition, timing, and effective ways of working close to people while staying unobtrusive. If you have certain things that you wish to cover, we can do that too. We want to help you to overcome any obstacles that you have when shooting on the streets.
You will have the opportunity to work with both of us. We have distinct ways of looking for street pictures and different approaches to achieving them. A lot of attendees have told us that this was one of the highlights of the day - shooting with two photographers who work so differently. It is like having two workshops in one.
The workshop isn't camera-centric. We've used rangefinders, DSLRs, mirrorless, and film in our work, so please bring whatever camera make/model you are comfortable with. Digital is preferred but only for purposes of feedback. For lenses, we recommend using something in the 28/35/50mm range (35mm equivalent) but a standard or wide zoom is fine. Camera settings will be discussed before we head out onto the streets.
Each workshop starts at 11.30 and finishes at 16.30 with an hour for lunch. A meet-up location will be sent to you before the day.
Some dates have two-day attendances available, so you can spend a couple of days with us and really take your photography up a notch!!

"I was fortunate enough to do a street photography workshop in Blackpool and all I can say is, WOW, what a wonderful experience. Jeff and Sarah were extremely hospitable, as well as very open and honest about their approach to photography. I have come away with a new insight into street photography and feel extremely motivated to go out and implement some of the new ideas I've taken away from my excellent day with them.
If you ever get the chance to attend one of their workshops, I would very highly recommend it and you'll almost certainly see me there too, as I will most definitely be signing up again.
Lastly, I had a four and a half hour trip each way from Bath to attend the Blackpool workshop, but I would do it again in a heartbeat as it was an outstanding 10/10 experience."
"Went for the Street Photography Experience in Oxford and I highly recommend it for photographers of any level. I’ve admired Jeff and Sarah’s work since I started photography and it was an absolute thrill to learn from them.
Jeff and Sarah were happy to answer technical questions, such as camera settings and focus modes, but the real takeaway was learning new ways of observing and composing, which you can’t learn from any book or on your own. I plan to use these principles in other genres of photography, just like how Jeff and Sarah have applied them to weddings.
Between learning new ways to see or a new 24-70 lens – I’d choose this experience, every time. And it doesn’t hurt that Jeff and Sarah are really personable and fun to talk to!"

"Thank you very much for the wonderful day in Cambridge! You put me at ease straight away, and helped me get out of my photography comfort zone. I haven't bought any new camera equipment yet but Louise is monitoring this space very closely :) I look forward to keeping in touch and I'll share a couple of photographs from the day in due course."
"Thank you again for your time & hospitality over the weekend. The opportunity to learn from you was priceless."
"I have had the "Ascough" experience [in Blackpool] and I can highly recommend it. You will see Sarah and Jeff working side by side, see how different and yet how marvellous both of them are. Afterwards, you will surely have learned something about your own way of shooting/seeing the world."
